Staging a house for an Open House Showing?

Author: admin  |  Category: Staging a House

Anybody have any interesting ideas as to how to stage a house in an "open house" setting? I’ve heard of like baking cookies, but i’m just looking for more interesting ideas that you all might have.

Thanks.

I just received my certification in February.

Main things are declutter & depersonalize. Remove as many personal items as possible. No religous items! Box up what’s not needed. Store in the garage if needed.

Create vignetttes (groups of 3 accent items) on tables, counters & remove EVERYTHING else. Out of sight, out of mind.

A dining/kitchen table could have say 4 place settings (or just 4 nice charger plates), with nice glassware & napkins. Don’t go overboard.

Envision how you see furniture in a furniture store. If furniture is pushed all the way against walls, pull them out & create conversation areas. Get rid of magazines & mail.

Turn on all lights, open all drapes. Light candles (my teacher was mixed on whether to use scented ones or not) If you chose to have some sort of scent going, be it candles or cookies, have something not overpowering. Maybe those quickie breakfast pasteries in the oven during the early part & then cookies later in the day, plus you can serve them to the guests.

Nice flower pots at the front porch/steps. Trim the grass, shrubs, remove moss from walkway cracks, don’t overlook cleaning the street gutter & removing any debris from yard & walkways.

The main idea/principle is that when there are personal items in homes or clutter, trash in the yard, the buyer often gets focused on looking at those items rather than the home & it’s appeal.

Hire a home stager for a consultation. Normally they run about $150-250. Go to http://www.stagedhomes.com to find a stager in your area.

As a hiring manager for 10 years, I would read into the answer "open" as you willing to work any hours available and would be disappointed once I was told I you were actually limited by a school schedule.
You need to make note that your school schedule will affect your availability, that way no disappointment for the prospective employer once you get the interview.
