Hey does anyone know if you can build a house in stages in NC instead of building it at one time?

I have a piece of land in NC but want to build my home over a time period in stages until its complete

Your home definitely can be built in stages. But, should be done so that you don’t leave the building at risk to the elements or people. Get a panelized home package such as Eagles Nest. That way you can quickly (in 5 or 6 days) complete the exterior roof and walls on a foundation. That’s called "dryed in." That way you are protected from the elements and people who like to steal building materials. Store everything inside. Then take all the time you need doing the interior walls, HVAC, etc. in stages. That will cost you less and if you do it right you will finance the project in such a way that you will actually gain a subtantial amount of money (from what is called instant equity), to build out the home or upgrade it.

yes u can…but, check w/building inspector for building permit expiration. some municipalities have restrictions. if u want 2 build in pieces, u may have to purchase permits 4 each aspect of phases of construction. most locations will allow u to complete as much as possible until the permit expiration. u may have to purchase multiple permits til the completion of your home. when in doubt…contact your local zoning board/building permit office.
